Wye Farmers
Market
Wye Farmers Market was the
first Farmers Market to be established in Kent. Every month is a bumper month
for home-grown produce. Market stalls are piled high with
sweetcorn, pumpkins, squashes, apples & pears, strawberries, beef &
pork, fish, bacon & sausages, cheeses, cakes, honey, breads and juices.
All of them locally
produced and of excellent quality.
Not only does it taste
better, but buying local food has far wider benefits too. Researchers
have found that the carbon-dioxide emissions associated with food
distribution were 650 times lower when food was bought locally
from a Farmers Market.
The ingredients for an
air-freighted Sunday lunch created 37 kilos of greenhouses gasses
compared with only 58.2 grams released from travel to a Farmers
Market.
The oldest Farmers Market in Kent, and one of only 3 in the county to be awarded National Association of Farmers Market certification, Wye Farmers Market is dedicated to making locally produced food readily available to local residents to the mutual benefit of both farmer and consumer.
A wide selection of meat, fish, cheese, eggs, fruit and vegetables, honey, jams, pickles and preserves, pies, bread and cakes, apple juice, handmade soap, plants and herbs are regularly available at the market, together with many organic products.
In shopping at a farmers market, customers know that they are not only obtaining good quality local food, but also helping to protect the environment by reducing food miles and packaging waste.
